Mulch Installation
Clean beds, crisp edges and an even layer of quality mulch at the right depth — the fastest visible upgrade most yards can get.
Mulch does real work. A proper layer holds soil moisture through August, keeps roots cooler, blocks most weed germination, and slowly feeds the soil as it breaks down. It also makes an ordinary yard look finished in a single afternoon.
Our mulch service is not just dumping bags in a bed. We re-cut the edges, pull the weeds that are already there, rake the surface even, and apply mulch at a consistent depth — kept back from stems and trunks where piled mulch causes rot.
What mulch installation includes
- ✓Bed edging, re-cut clean by hand or machine
- ✓Weed removal before mulch goes down
- ✓Mulch delivery and even application at 2 to 3 inches
- ✓Hardwood, cedar, and dyed brown or black mulch options
- ✓Mulch pulled back from stems, trunks and siding
- ✓Full cleanup and blow-off of walks, drives and patios

Our process
Measure and quote
We measure your bed area, confirm the mulch type you want, and quote the exact yardage needed — no padded volumes.
Bed prep
Edges are re-cut for a crisp line, weeds are pulled, and old matted mulch is broken up so the new layer sits properly.
Application
Mulch is spread evenly at 2 to 3 inches, kept away from plant stems and tree flares, and feathered neatly against edges.
Cleanup
Hard surfaces are blown clean and the property is left tidy before we leave.
When to mulch in Michigan
Mid to late spring is the sweet spot in Oakland County — once soil has warmed but before summer weeds set seed. Mulching too early over cold, wet clay slows soil warming and delays perennials waking up.
A second lighter application in late fall protects newly planted perennials and shrubs from freeze-thaw heaving, which is a real risk here when temperatures bounce above and below freezing repeatedly in February and March.
Depth is where most DIY mulching goes wrong. Two to three inches suppresses weeds and holds moisture. Piling six inches against a trunk, the so-called mulch volcano, traps moisture against bark and invites rot and rodent damage.
